Kolawole Olawuyi’s Widow Debunks Claims Linking TB Joshua to Journalist’s Death (VIDEO)

Years after the passing of renowned investigative journalist Kolawole Olawuyi, speculation has continued to swirl around the circumstances of his death, with some linking it to his past exposé on the late Prophet Temitope Balogun (TB) Joshua.

Now, Olawuyi’s widow, Abimbola Taiwo Olawuyi, has spoken out to put the rumors to rest.

In a recent interview with Tooto TV, Abimbola dismissed claims that her husband’s death was connected to TB Joshua, stating that he passed away from a natural illness after just a week of sickness.

Olawuyi, a fearless broadcaster known for his work on Nkan Nbe (TV) and Irinkerindo (radio), died on March 4, 2007, at the age of 44. His investigative reports exposed ritualists, kidnappers, and corrupt landlords, making him a well-respected but controversial figure in Nigerian journalism.

Following his death, some speculated that his investigative work—particularly his reports on TB Joshua—had led to his demise.

Addressing the claims, Abimbola revealed that while Olawuyi did investigate TB Joshua in 1996 and even left his job at Radio Nigeria due to pressure from the cleric’s allies, his death over a decade later had no connection to that story or his journalism career.

She clarified:

“He was in Radio Nigeria when he did the report on TB Joshua. And it was actually because of the TB Joshua report that he left Radio Nigeria.

“My husband was airing a programme on TB Joshua, but the cleric went to some bosses at Radio Nigeria, asking them to halt the broadcast.

“However, my husband said ‘no’. So, he left Radio Nigeria because of TB Joshua’s exposé. That was 1996, and he died in 2007.

“So, sincerely speaking, his death has nothing to do with TB Joshua nor with any story that he did in his journalism career.”
