The Lagos State Government has issued a fresh flood alert for residents, urging them to prepare for potential flooding in September. The alert was issued following the release of an updated Water Releases Forecast for Flood Control by the Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority.
The catchment areas that are expected to be affected include Alagbole, Meiran, Maidan, Kara, Isheri-Olowara, Agiliti, Owode-Onirin, Owode-Elede, Agboyi I, Agboyi II, Ajegunle, Itowolo, Majidun, Ibeshe, Baiyeku, and the Lekki-Ajah axis. The Permanent Secretary of the Office of Drainage Services & Water Resources, Lekan Shodeinde, emphasized that the safety of lives and properties is the government’s top priority.
Residents and property owners in the listed areas are advised to be prepared to move to higher ground when the water level starts rising, indicating signs of flooding. This advice is also applicable to all residents across the state.
