A doctor in Oyo State have warned people to be wary of food wrapped by newspapers noting that rats usually defecate or urinate on the papers.
He also warned that the people should keep off rats from their foodstuffs especially garri which is a staple food mostly got attracted by the rodent.
The doctor, Mr. Ayobami Alabi who is the Resident doctors of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) teaching hospital, Ogbomoso said this while briefing LiveTimesNG on Friday on how deadly the ailment to human health.
Alabi said: “It is very important for Nigerians to stop the epidemic of this deadly disease call Lassa Fever and major solution is to avoid rats in the house.
According to him, one major way people contract the ailment is eating food wrapped with newspapers because when infected mice defecate or urinate on the paper, human can get infected.
“Mice eat garri and they will be attracted to it. Therefore, the prevention is to avoid rats to have access to foodstuffs”, Alabi warned.
