Confusion hit authorities of the Lagos State Teaching hospital at the moment, as one of its patient ward has been flooded with human faeces for the second time in 24 hours, following a sudden burst of one of the hospital’s soak-away system.
According to City News, the incident which happened yesterday evening, began when one of the soak-away system of the hospital – which prides itself as a medical centre of excellence – caved in and pressured its pipe leading to a torrent of human faeces into one of the wards with patients with acute pains and wounds.
One of the hospital patients was allegedly covered in human faeces after she fell on the floor as a result of the hospital’s evacuation process which we gathered was handled in a very unprofessional manner because of the rude shock of the incidents to the hospital’s authorities.
Sources also revealed that there was another torrents of human waste in the same ward early this morning as a result of another leakage from the said soak-away. It’s also sad to report that a handful of the patients in this ward risk serious infections as a result of the incident as some of them have got wounds that are just healing up on several parts of their bodies.
We learnt some hospital personnel have apologized to patients for the incident and reassured them there was a ‘minimal’ health risk owing to the ugly incident saying a fault in part of a pipe close to the ward at the Hospital resulted in a patients coming into contact with waste from that pipe.’
All attempts to get to the hospital authorities as at press time was however proved abortive.
