Leadership Tussle Rocks OPC New Era as Sadam’s Tenure Nears End

A leadership crisis is unfolding within the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) New Era as the eight-year tenure of its pioneer executives, led by National President Alhaji Rasaq Balogun Arogundade (popularly known as Sadam), draws to a close this month.

While many members of the National Coordinating Council (NCC) and the Elders Council are preparing for a smooth transition, there are growing concerns that Sadam is unwilling to relinquish power despite an initial agreement that executives would serve only two terms of four years each.

Party stakeholders insist the agreement must be honored, stressing that it is time for new leadership to inject fresh ideas into the organization.

The succession battle appears to be taking shape as the Lagos State Chairman of OPC New Era, Alhaji Lateef Adewale Oshodi, has formally declared his ambition to succeed Sadam.

Sources within the group revealed that Oshodi enjoys strong backing from influential leaders across the country, who cite his loyalty and consistent service to the organization since 1997 as key credentials for the top seat.

With pressure mounting and support coalescing around Oshodi, there are indications that Sadam’s reign as National President may soon come to an end.
