Makinde Commends Police, Donates Vehicles to Zone 11 Command

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has praised the Nigeria Police Force for their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state and across the country.

He gave the commendation on Wednesday while receiving the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11—which covers Oyo and Osun states—AIG Fred Ikokotu, during a courtesy visit to the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.

Governor Makinde highlighted the dedication of security personnel in Oyo, noting that the state has benefited from the tireless efforts of service commanders and police officers. He reaffirmed his administration’s continued prioritisation of safety and peaceful co-existence, especially in areas bordering neighbouring Osun State.

He assured the visiting AIG of his government’s support for security operations in the region and announced the immediate donation of two Mitsubishi trucks and a brand-new KIA Rio vehicle—each fitted with communication equipment—to the Zone 11 Police Command.

“The police have been at the forefront of ensuring internal security in Oyo State,” the governor stated. “Despite the challenges, you have delivered results. We are committed to supporting your efforts, especially in maintaining peace along the Oyo-Osun boundary.”

Makinde also stressed the importance of unity and dialogue in resolving boundary disputes, noting that the responsibility of fostering national cohesion rests heavily on the elite and leadership class.

In his remarks, AIG Ikokotu expressed appreciation for the consistent support from the Makinde administration, particularly in the provision of operational resources. He pledged the commitment of the Zone 11 Command to sustaining peace in the region and stated that stakeholder consultations were ongoing to find lasting solutions to boundary tensions.

The event was attended by senior government officials and high-ranking police officers from Zone 11 and the Oyo State Command.
