Man Allegedly Kills Pregnant Wife in Niger State; Police Launch Investigation

A tragic incident has unfolded in the Limawa area of Minna, Niger State, where a man is alleged to have fatally assaulted his pregnant wife. The event has sparked widespread outrage and prompted swift intervention by law enforcement authorities.

According to eyewitness reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening. Neighbours were alerted by distressing cries coming from the couple’s residence and rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, by the time help arrived, the woman was already unresponsive and later confirmed dead.

As reported by SaharaReporters, the identity of the deceased has not yet been officially confirmed by authorities. However, local residents described the situation as heartbreaking and claimed the suspect, believed to be the victim’s husband, had a known history of domestic violence.

“This isn’t the first time he’s beaten her,” a community member stated. “We’ve warned him multiple times. Now he’s gone too far.”

The suspect was reportedly apprehended shortly after the incident and remains in police custody. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that the matter is under investigation but said he needed more time to gather comprehensive details.

In a related case earlier this year, SaharaReporters also detailed another domestic tragedy in Lafiyagi Dzwafu village, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State. In that case, a woman identified as Fatima Dzuma allegedly murdered her husband, Baba, three years after their marriage.

According to local sources, Dzuma had one child from a previous marriage, while her husband’s first wife had recently given birth. Amid family celebrations, Dzuma reportedly strangled her husband with a scarf as he slept, then struck him multiple times with a pestle.

She allegedly concealed his body in the backyard and maintained a facade of normalcy for several days, even as family members searched for him. Eventually, Dzuma confessed, telling investigators, “I acted alone.”

Both cases have reignited concerns about rising domestic violence in the region and calls for stronger protective measures for vulnerable individuals, especially women.
