Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old man, Adeyemi Babatunde, for allegedly killing a 46-year-old driver, Obafunsho Ismail, over a minor argument that occurred between them around 8pm on December 8.
According to the report which was gathered by Punch Newspapers, it was disclosed that the suspect was driving a Lexus SUV when he mistakenly bashed the car of the deceased and caused a lot of damages to the his car.
This got the deceased upset and made him to confront the suspect who refused to get down from his car even to apologize for the damages that he had caused.
As time goes on, the issue led to a serious argument between the two of them and the deceased sat on the suspect’s bonnet and insisted that if the suspect doesn’t come down from his car to apologize to him, he won’t allow him escape.
Later on, the suspect got down from his car and begged the deceased to get down from his car so that he can leave and the deceased refused which got the suspect angry and he went inside his car and drove his car at top speed which made the deceased to fall down and got crushed by the suspect’s car.
The suspect who wasn’t still satisfied with his actions, reversed his car and ran the car over the deceased to make sure he was completely dead.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, noted that the suspect was later apprehended at his father’s house after he fled the scene.
The suspect while speaking to newsmen noted that, “After I hit the car of the man, he came down from his car and asked me to come down for us to assess the extent of the damage in order to find a solution to it. But I refused to come down from my vehicle and wanted to run away. The man now sat on the bonnet of my car and prevented me from running away. Then I later came down and warned the deceased to leave the bonnet of my car if he did not want to waste his life.”
He continued, “I then went back to my car and drove at top speed which made the deceased fall down from my car, and the car ran over him. I was not still satisfied, so I reversed the car and ran over the man again to ensure that he actually died.”
Nevertheless, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered that the suspect should be charged to court for taking laws into his hands.
