Man Kills Mother, Shot Dead by Brother in Family Dispute

A family dispute in Alabama ended in a double tragedy after a 25-year-old man fatally shot his mother before being killed by his own brother in an apparent act of self-defense.

The Mobile Police Department confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday, June 8, at a residence in the 1200 block of Ross Street. Officers responding to a report of gunfire found two people dead inside the home.

Investigators later identified the deceased as 52-year-old Traci McDuffie and her son, Brandon McDuffie, 25.

According to police, Brandon fatally shot his mother, prompting his older brother, Brent McDuffie, 32, to intervene. When Brandon turned the gun on Brent, the elder brother returned fire, killing him.

“The death of Brandon McDuffie will be presented to a grand jury,” police said, adding that the matter remains under investigation.

The First Baptist Church of Baltimore Street, Inc. later confirmed Brent McDuffie’s identity in a Facebook post, describing the tragedy as a “devastating blow to the community.”
