38- year- old woman from Adumasa, has allegedly been murdered by her husband on their cocoa farm.
The naked and decomposing body of the victim, Ama Afriyie, was found a day after the incident, when the two failed to return from the farm.
The husband, Kwesi Poku, is suspected to have killed his wife and subsequently committed suicide a few meters away from the scene.
The immediate motive for the crime is not yet clear, but according to reports, the couple had a series of bitter disputes over sexx and money and this is suspected to be the motive for the murder.
Ama Afriyie is reported to be the breadwinner of the family and is engaged in agro- dealing, while her alleged killer and husband has been unemployed for over 15 years and is largely dependent on his wife for his livelihood.
Speaking to newsmen Erastus Asare Donkor, the head of the Bretuo clan, Nana Gyekye Amponsah, revealed that the late husband often complained bitterly that his wife no longer loved him, accusing her of having affairs with other men.
” The husband accused the deceased [wife] of infidelity, an accusation she denied. His wife was the one who took care of the children, but you don’ t depend on a woman for everything, you shirk responsibility and want to sleep with her at night as well. Because she refused to have sex with him, he killed her, ” said Nana Gyekye Amponsah.
Her 6 orphaned children, five boys and a girl, say they miss their mother very much and that things will never be the same without her.
” Now we have no one to correct us. When mom was alive, she used to call us all together and share meals with us. Even when we were sleeping, she would wake us up and feed us, ” the children comment.
One of their son said their father often disturb their mum for sex whenever they go out for farming in their little cocoa farm.
