On September 1, the Adamawa State Police Command arrested a 45-year-old man accused of allegedly defiling a 10-year old minor in Tsohon Tike (Mayo Belwa Local Government Area).
The suspect identified as Kawu Sale, a resident of Tsohon Tike Mayo Belwa LGA, and neighbor to the victim, allegedly lured the victim into his room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of him via his anus.
Akure Usman, the victim’s father, reported the incident to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Mayo Belwa along with other members of the community.
SP Suleiman Nguroje (spokesman for the state police command) confirmed the incident to newsmen. He said that preliminary investigations so far have revealed that the victim ran out of the suspect’s room on the same date, at about 1100hrs. The victim told us what the suspect did to him after being questioned.
”Angered by the what the accused did, the neighbours immediately headed for the suspect room. But when he saw the mob coming towards his room, he attempted killing himself by stabbing himself severally on the neck and stomach. ”Nguroje said
According to the police spokesperson, the state Commissioner of Police, CP SK Akande has given direction for State CID detectives to assume investigation and ensure prosecution.
The suspect is currently being treated at Yola Hospital.
