•As he defends Ajimobi over alleged inappropriateness of contracts in office
The Chief of Staff to the immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Gbade Ojo has described the popular maxim of “Mummy has interest” as a cheap blackmail against the person of the immediate past Governor.
The Associate Professor of Comparative Politics stated this on a Political Programme on IBR 92.5 fm- BOTTOM LINE over the weekend.
Gbade Ojo also described the allegation by Governor Seyi Makinde that only 10 percent of allocated sum for contracts was used to execute awarded contracts by his predecessor while the Governor and his wife took the largest percentage as incredible.
Ojo who insisted that no contract was awarded without proper scrutiny by the State Executive Council during the tenure of Governor Ajimobi said what the Governor meant invariably was that no contract was executed. He added that the projects commissioned by Makinde to commerorate his 100 days in Office were 90% completed by Ajimobi.
“That means no contract was executed. Model schools were completed within his first 100 days in Office and each costs 1 billion naira and yet such a claim. It is incredible”
On the popular slogan “Mummy has Interest” which became popular during the Ajimobi’s administration, he dismissed it as a cheap blackmail.
He said “it is one of the negative aspects of our politics. Politics of underdevelopment that could discourage decent people from going into politics. What I saw in government was a decent system and you could see the many dualized roads. Infact, no Governor in the history of Oyo State constructed roads like Ajimobi”.
On Workers welfare, the Clergyman said “if you pay salary on the 20th, it is one month. If you pay salary on 30th, every 30th, it is still one month. I can say this publicly, as at the time Governor Ajimobi handed over, he was not owing Civil Servants salary, that is the truth. If he governed for eight years and no Civil Servant could say he was owed two month salary, it is a success. When bailout came, the Governor was being called Baba Ibeji (Father of Twins) because he was signing two months when money came and he cleared the backlog”. He claimed that for months Ajimobi paid 13th month salary to all the workers.
Also featuring on the programme, the Commissioner for Enviroment and Natural Resources, Kehinde Ayoola said APC members in Oyo State should be ashamed of themselves.
“They had eight years. The project for Model Schools were awarded in 2013 and on the day of the award, the then Commissioner for Education, one Professor did say the completion period for the project was eighteen months. Why did they not complete it.
The former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly alleged that a top official in Ajimobi government allocated twenty thousand hectares of land at Opara Forest Reserve in Oke-Ogun to himself but said his Ministry has revoked it.
