…extends olive branch to all aggreived parties, excited FUOYE community jubilate, advise VC elect

From Kehinde Adewole

The newly elected Vice-Chancellor, (VC) Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has promised to build on the laudable legacies of the out-going VC, Prof. Kayode Soremekun and those of other VCs before him, by ensuring that the Institution becomes a world class University within the shortest possible time. He also appealed to all parties to come on board and join hands with his administration in his ambition to take FUOYE further into an enviable height, adding that his first mission on assumption of office shall be to embark on aggressive consultations, dialogue and reconciliation of all aggreived parties. The VC-elect also promised to lead by example with the highest standard of professionalism, excellence and integrity.

Prof. Fasina made this promises in his acceptance speech, entitled: “God Wins, An Acceptance Speech”, which was made available to newsmen on Wednesday evening in Ado-Ekiti, state capital.

While appreciating the chairman of the Governing Council, FUOYE, Dr. Mohammed Yahuza, as well as the distinguished members of the Council for their patriotic and selfless roles in the process that produced him, he said: “l feel highly honoured and extremely delighted to have been appointed as the incoming Vice Chancellor of our great University, FUOYE. As most, if not all of us here may be aware, I passed through the proverbial needle’s eye, nay fire, to get to this point. This is not by my power. It is the fulfillment of the will of God in my life through the people he had ordained to be my destiny helpers in this tortuous journey.

” Let me heartily express my profound gratitude and appreciation to this Governing Council, under the exemplary Chairmanship of Dr Lawan Yahuza, for considering me worthy of this important office. The National Universities Commission (NUC) under the purposeful leadership of His Academic Eminence, Professor Abdulrasheed, also deserves commendation for standing true to its regulatory/supervisory roles. I also received support from many other quarters that are too numerous to mention. I thank all who have contributed to the story of today one way or the other.

” My competitors also deserve commendation. They did not only put up a very strong fight, but also demonstrated high spirit of sportsmanship. In every competition of this nature, there can only be one winner. Now that the race is over, I hereby sincerely extend a genuine hand of fellowship to them all, especially those from FUOYE, so that we can be united in the onerous task of taking FUOYE to the next level. I recognise all of them as partners in progress.

“My dream is to transform FUOYE into a first class university within the shortest possible time. . I will lead by example with the highest standard of professionalism, excellence and integrity. Staff welfare and development will be a top priority. We need all actors, the high and the low, to actualize this lofty dream. I therefore wish to appeal to all well-meaning members of FUOYE and the larger society to join us. Upon assumption of office, I will initiate an aggressive process of consultations, dialogue and reconciliation with all aggrieved parties. We need everybody on board. Please give us a chance.”

In another development, the entire FUOYE community who had overwhelmingly elected their colleagues to serve as their representatives in the Governing Council towards the election of the new VC, rejoiced on Wednesday following the announcement of Prof. Fasina as VC elect.

While sending in their congratulations messages and prayers, especially via the WhatsApp platforms of staff members, many also advised Prof. Fasina on his new assignment. One of such advices reads in part: “By charting a new course, steering your craft, tracking your progress, correcting when needed, letting others help along the way, and trusting yourself, you’ve reached a great place. Congratulations on your new appointment sir.. May the seas ahead be smooth and God grant you enabling strength to sail through .Accept my heartfelt congratulations sir….”

Another by Ayodele Anthony, reads: “Prof Abayomi Sunday Fasina.             kindly Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Colossians 3:12″.
