The wife of the former governor of Oyo State, Dr.(Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi has promised to use the new phase of her life to champion the course of the less privileged children in the state.
Dr. Ajimobi said this during the public presentation of her new book, “My Life Like A Rainbow” held at the Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Development in Nigeria in Ibadan on Tuesday.
In her presentation, she stated that since she had clocked 60 years of age she has been looking for a way where the upcoming generations will be able to tap from her experience and become better person irrespective of their background.
She advised the children and youths in the society, particularly young girls to be focused and courageous enough to achieve their set goals saying that she was a self made woman who only focused on how and way to be relevant in the society.
Dr. Ajimobi urged them not to lose focus irrespective of situations and circumstances, revealing that she got to know her father when she was six years of old.
Speaking about her family, the ex-first lady encouraged women to swallow their pride inorder to have a successful home, citing when her husband wanted to join politics in 2002 as a case study.
She noted that when her husband called her that she wanted to venture into politics, she asked him that the decision should be a collective decision but his husband replied that he was the head of the family and that his decision is the final.
She described herself as a daughter of a destiny, who irrespective of her background, mixed parentage and marriage to a man from polygamous family, still determined to a successful person in life.
Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, while thanking God, stated that the book is way of sharing her experience with the people and chart a new way forward in their life. She promised to continue to champion the course of the children in the society and encourage them to become the persons of their dream.
While delivering her welcome address, the Executive Director of Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Development in Nigeria, Mrs. Adefemi Bucknor-Arigbede disclosed that the IACD Nigeria is an initiative with mission to expose the Nigerian populace to the best practices in teaching and writing in the world.
She disclosed that the book, ‘My Life Like A Rainbow’ entails the life experience of Mrs. Ajimobi, covered her eight years as first lady of Oyo State, 39 years of her marriage and a life spanning of over 60 years.
“In the book, she unambiguously shares her experiences as a child of mixed parentage, wife to a man that started from a modest beginning who later became the governor of Oyo State, mother to five lovely children, grandmother, business woman, student, mentee, philanthropist and recently the former first lady of Oyo State.”
