The N13,500 as salary for Operation Amotekun, the South West security outfit which is set to be launched today to curb terrorism in the region has been condemned by some concerned Nigerians.
Reacting to the news of N13,500 for the security men, the people have considered the amount as menial which they say can not sustain the security scheme considering the endemic corruption in the country.
According to the concerned citizens, the money is too little that the security men can be tempted by the so called kidnappers, terrorists and others criminals they are recruited to arrest.
The people also maintained that the security outfit is poised to become worse than Nigerian police considering the fact that these criminals are capable to buy these Amotekun men to do their wish because of their low renumeration.
Meanwhile, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has earlier faulted the method the security men were recruited. He accuses southwest governors of playing politics with the yet to be inaugurated Amotekun saying the governors are currently recruiting those considered as their errand boys rather than people who are vast in security operations.
The Aare Ona Kakanfo warns that the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) should not be blamed if Amotekun fails.
Adams, in an interview recently, said the governors, led by Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, had not consulted him and the OPC, an organization he heads, even though reports had claimed that the latter would be involved in securing the zone.
