In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan and in the promotion of religious tolerance, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I) organized the first-ever Ramadan lecture by an Olubadan at his palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan, on Saturday.
The historic and significant event, hosted by a Christian monarch for the first time, drew attendees from various walks of life who participated in the special prayers and blessings of the holy month.
Speaking at the event, the Olubadan expressed his appreciation for the large turnout, which included members of the Olubadan-in-Council, royal fathers, top dignitaries, Islamic clerics, and representatives of various sects.

“I am overwhelmed by the attendance at this epoch-making event, which is not only spiritually uplifting but also a testament to religious tolerance in Ibadanland. Despite being a Christian, I consider myself a father to all and am greatly impressed with this gathering, which transcends tribe, religious beliefs, language, and location.”
“As you must be aware, most families in Ibadanland comprise individuals with different religious inclinations, yet they coexist peacefully as one family. This is a testament to the peaceful co-existence that reigns supreme in Ibadanland, regardless of religious differences.”
In his vote of thanks, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Royal Majesty Oba (Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, emphasized the secular nature of Ibadanland and Oyo State. He noted that participation in religious activities highlights the deep-rooted spirituality of Ibadan residents.
“The gathering of Islamic faithful at the Olubadan’s palace today for the Ramadan lecture further affirms that Oyo State is a secular state where every citizen is free to practice their religion without fear of persecution, intimidation, or harassment.”
Oba Ladoja urged participants to adhere strictly to the lessons learned, which included perseverance, humility, love, care for one another, and abstaining from sin.
The Guest Lecturer, Khalifa Qoseem Ajisafe Akilapa, elaborated on the theme of the lecture, Destiny, which he defined as the divine decision of God. He emphasized that destiny determined Oba Olakulehin’s ascension to the throne and plays a role in everyone’s path in life.
Imam Ajisafe Akilapa encouraged individuals in positions of authority, including traditional titleholders, to cultivate the spirit of forgiveness, always give glory to the Almighty, and avoid treacherous acts. He also urged citizens to remain loyal to constituted authorities, be humble, and faithfully execute any tasks or directives assigned to them.
Eminent dignitaries at the event included members of the Olubadan-in-Council, the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiyy Abubakr Agbotomokekere, His Eminence Alhaji Dawud Akinola Mokanjuola (Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States), the President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Barr.
