A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi, has refuted claims made by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MICH Royal Company Nigeria Limited, Prince Gbolagade Adeyemi, that Gbolarumi and the Olugbesan family had apologized to him.
Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, Gbolarumi said the Olugbesan family had handed over part of its properties at Olugbesan village in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan to Prince Adeyemi for sale in October 2021. However, Adeyemi did not remit the proceeds of the sales accordingly.
Gbolarumi stated that the family wrote two different letters to Adeyemi, asking him to provide a comprehensive account of what he had sold, but he failed to comply until the family discovered that he had been selling and signing documents as both a vendor and a purchaser for the family.
This prompted the family to petition the Inspector General of Police, where Adeyemi admitted and signed an undertaking to return 65 million naira to the Olugbesan family.
“Following the investigations made by the police, he owned up that he didn’t remit the proceeds from the sales of the family properties and he swore to an affidavit at the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 6, 2023, withdrawing his authority on the land based on the fraudulent activities discovered by the Olugbesan family,” Gbolarumi said.
Gbolarumi expressed surprise at Adeyemi’s claim that the Olugbesan family had apologized to him over the sale, stating that those who claimed to be members of the family are not known to the family. Gbolarumi also denied Adeyemi’s claim that he had paid money from the proceeds of the land sales into Gbolarumi’s account.
“I just want to clarify that I never apologized to him. Those who he claimed are members of the Olugbesan family are not known to us either. He should just pay the money he is owing the family,” Gbolarumi said.
