What happened on Saturday 5th of October 2019 at the congress of the NUJ Oyo state council was nothing but an attempt by the current Chairman of the Union, Comrade Adewumi Faniran to monopolize the electoral process and rig himself in, for an undeserved second term having failed to live up to the expectations of the majority in the last three years.
The crises started when chairman announced the name of the 5 Man Electoral Committee to be led by Semiu Azeez from federated Chapel of Oke-Ogun, with Ridwan Fasasi of FRCN as Secretary, while Adebayo AbdRofih from BCOS,Ola Ajayi from Correspondents’ Chapel and Nike Ajayi of ALGIO will serve as members.
You will all recall that during the 2016 Election of Oyo NUJ, Semiu Azeez was the one who coordinated all members of the union in Oke-Ogun that voted for Faniran, while Ridwan Fasasi of FRCN (his subordinate) served as his Director General then.
Now, if Semiu Azeez is the Chairman and Fasasi is the secretary you will understand the kind of politics Comrade Adewumi Faniran want to play.
The chairman ignored all the observations raised by members and insisted that he can’t change any member of the committee found lacking in integrity; to be just and fair to all contestants.
This necessitated the crisis at the state congress of our Union.
On behalf of the Rescue Team and DEMBAB Lovers we urge members to remain calm and continue in their intellectual approach to issues affecting our great union.
This desperate Chairman and his partners in crime must be stopped by all means, legally possible.
