As the eight-year tenure of Alhaji Rasaq Balogun Arogundade (a.k.a. Sadam)-led executives of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) New Era is gradually winding down, another prominent member has indicated interest in taking over the mantle of leadership of the Yoruba socio-cultural group.
Alhaji Lateef Olawale Oshodi, currently the Lagos State Chairman of OPC New Era and a member of the Oshodi dynasty of Lagos Island, has shown interest in succeeding Sadam as the National President of the group.
It would be recalled that Sadam emerged as the National President of OPC New Era eight years ago, with an agreement by both the National Coordinating Council (NCC) and the Elders Council of the group that the executives would be dissolved after two terms of four years each.
After completing their eight-year tenure later this year, a new set of executives is expected to be put in place by the Elders Council of the Yoruba socio-cultural group.
All appointments made eight years ago will be terminated by the end of this September in preparation for the constitution of new executives.
Alhaji Lateef Olawale Oshodi, who has been an OPC member since 1997, has expressed his interest in the position of National President of the group and has made it known to both the NCC and the Elders Council.
Many OPC New Era members support Alhaji Oshodi’s ambition to emerge as the new National President of the group, saying he is not only qualified for the position but also credible and competent to lead the organization.
If eventually Alhaji Oshodi scaled through the Elders Council’s electoral panel, he may be sworn-in as the new National President of the OPC New Era by December 12 this year.
