The Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora has matriculated 1,805 newly admitted Students into the institution.
In his speech at the 12th matriculation ceremony held at the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, the acting Rector, Mr. Olaniyi Adekunle revealed that 1,160 students were offered admission into the National Diploma programmes and 350 into the Higher National Diploma, while 295 were admitted for part- time programmes.
The acting rector, who congratulated the matriculating students, enjoined them to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the matriculation oath as stated in the laws establishing the institution. He noted that the institution has zero tolerance examination misconduct, cultism and indecent dressing and other vices.
He charged them to be serious minded and diligent in their academic pursuit. Mr. Adekunle explained that the institution which now has a polytechnic status runs agricultural, technological and management oriented programmes, some of which include; civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical electronics engineering, computer science, statistics, science laboratory technology, business administration, public administration and a host of others.
According to the acting rector, ‘the institution is not only unique but it is best among equals, as a result of its high preference for practical training, entrepreneurship and agropreneurship. He pointed out that the students of the institution are trained to be innovative, food providers and job creators.’
He commended the Igboora community and Ibarapa in general for their hospitality towards staff and students as well as their supportive roles for the continued existence of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora.
The acting rector also commended the Oyo State Government on its efforts to restore the lost glory of Oyo State in terms of Agriculture. He also hinted that the State Government under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde has facilitated collaboration between the College and French agencies on curriculum development and exchange programmes, which would further enhance youth empowerment in the State.
He called on the Oyo State Government to partner with the college on agricultural training for youths in the state.
The Registrar, Mr. Niyi Fehintola who administered the matriculation oath on the students congratulated the students on their integration as bonafied students of the institution as the students also expressed joy for the opportunity.
