The former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and PDP chieftain in the state, Chief Hazeem Gbolarumi has advised Nigerians especially people in the state to take COVID-19 protocols seriously saying the disease is real.
Gbolarumi who just returned from United Kingdom after over six months ‘incarceration’ in London due to the global pandemic lockdown said Nigerians are showing nonchalant attitude towards the disease ravaging the world.
Reliving his experience with LiveTimesNG on Thursday morning, Gbolarumi said: “My flight was cancelled three times because my COVID-19 test was not captured on time to meet the flight. This is because my test must be captured before 96 hours to take the flight. This is to show that they took COVID-19 protocols serious in United Kingdom because they consider it is real.
“Even their Prime Minister was test positive and it took him weeks before he was recovered. The protocols were strict to the extent that anybody who is caught outside and is not an essential worker like health workers would be arrested.
“When I arrived Nigeria some days ago, I observed the mandatory quarantine and self-isolation in Lagos. I was tested again in Nigeria and I was tested negative. What I however observed was that, in Nigeria, we are not attaching much importance to the COVID-19 protocols unlike UK. People are not observing social distancing at all especially in public vehicles.
“My message is that, Nigerians especially people in Oyo State should take heed to the precautionary measures against the disease.
“In Africa, we don’t take the protocols seriously at all like our European counterparts. We need to abide by the rules and regulations to overcome the disease”, Gbolarumi advised.
