Oyo Government Assures Quality on Iseyin-Saki Road Rehabilitation

The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a high-quality rehabilitation of the 83.82-kilometre Iseyin-Okaka-Saki Road. The government emphasized that the project is being meticulously supervised by Resident Engineers from the Oyo State Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

In a statement released on Thursday, the government assured residents that the ongoing limited rehabilitation is being closely monitored. The Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Dahud Shangodoyin, along with a team of engineers, has been conducting site inspections, including a recent visit on February 20, 2025.

The statement also addressed allegations circulating on social media, which claimed the project was plagued by poor workmanship. The government dismissed these claims as unfounded, reiterating its commitment to ensuring the work meets required specifications.

According to Prof. Shangodoyin, the governor approved a palliative intervention on the road, involving various rehabilitation measures such as clearing, turnouts, scarification, and removal of unsuitable materials. The scope of work also includes the construction of reinforced concrete retaining walls, the supply of sub-base and base course materials, and the application of a 40mm asphaltic wearing course at critical sections.

“The Iseyin-Saki Road, a federal road, has undergone multiple rehabilitations by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), yet it remained in a deplorable state. Recognizing the discomfort faced by road users, Governor Seyi Makinde directed the state government to intervene, despite the road being classified as a trunk A road,” the statement read.

The project, awarded to a reputable contractor with a proven track record in the state, is currently being funded entirely by the Oyo State Government.

“So far, the progress recorded on the project includes the completion of asphaltic regulation of the surface from Iseyin-Ipapo, the completion of the asphaltic resurfacing between Ipapo and Alaga Road, the completion of the laying of stone base and asphalting between Okaka and Alaga and the ongoing laying of stone base and asphaltic resurfacing between Alaga and Baasi”, the statement added.

The remaining work involves the completion of stone base laying and asphaltic resurfacing between Baasi and Saki.
