The Oyo State Government has informed all commercial motorcycles and tricycles in the State to change colours of their vehicles as government begins the full enforcement of uniform colour of commercial vehicles in the state.
The Government further revealed that this is mandatory, in view of the current security challenges confronting the nation, as well as the dramatic influx of motorcycle operators from neighbouring States into Oyo State.
This was revealed in a meeting held by the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), Dr. Akin Fagbemi with the leadership of Motorcycles and Tricycles Union of Nigeria (MTUN) led by Comrade Yetunde Alabi and other major stakeholders.
The Executive Chairman, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi said, “the Authority, having conducted due diligence and meeting with relevant stakeholders, has given a 14-day ultimatum to all commercial motorcycles operating within the State to comply with the directive of painting their respective motorcycles with State approved colours ‘wine’ and ‘yellow’.
Speaking further, he revealed that “the policy is in tandem with the Second Schedule, License Conditions 9 (Commercial), Code LCG01 of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority Law 2009 which stipulates a fine of N15,000 on defaulters.
Therefore, the enactment of this policy is statutorily backed by the extant laws of Oyo State and it would help to significantly stem the tide of bag snatching, kidnapping and other nefarious acts orchestrated by some unscrupulous motorcyclists in the State.
He opined that, it would help in the easy identification of commercial motorcyclists across the State, hence, preventing unsuspecting members of the public from falling prey of fraudsters parading as motorcyclists”, Dr. Fagbemi concluded.
