
The Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, mni, has lauded civil servants across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for their dedication and sportsmanship as the 2025 Public Service Games (PSG) approach their grand finale.
Mrs. Oni gave the commendation while officially inaugurating the female wing of the football competition during a keenly contested match between the Environment and Health sectors, which ended 2-1 in favor of the Environment team at the Ikolaba High School Mini Sports Complex, Agodi-GRA, Ibadan.
She explained that the objective of the games was to strengthen unity among public servants while showcasing their sporting talents. According to her, the competition, which featured the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary arms of government, has been exciting and impactful since its commencement.
“Sports bring people together, and this tournament has shown us the strength of teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition. Beyond the matches, the health benefits of active participation are immense, as medical professionals have consistently emphasized,” she said.
Mrs. Oni further encouraged civil servants to sustain the momentum by maintaining regular football training even after the tournament, while looking forward to an even bigger and better competition in the next season.
Similarly, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, expressed delight with the quality of play and the spirit of the tournament. She urged participants to remain committed to sportsmanship, noting:
“Our players performed admirably in this match. There must be a winner and a loser, but what matters is the effort and determination. We will work harder to achieve better results in the next PSG season.”
In the semi-final matches, the Environment Sector secured its place in the final by edging out the Health Sector 2-1, while the Security and Safety Sector defeated the Judiciary Sector 2-0. Both winning teams will now face each other in the championship match at the Adamasingba Sports Complex, Ibadan.
Meanwhile, in the female category, the Education Sector booked a place in the finals after beating the Security and Safety Sector 2-0, while the Health Sector advanced with a 2-0 win over the House of Assembly Sector.
Spectators described the matches as competitive, entertaining, and a major highlight of the 2025 Public Service Week celebrations.
