A popular businessman and king of Eti Oni in Ijesaland, HRH Olatunde Oginni and one of his aides, Mr. Olowoloba Sunday have landed in hospital and subsequently been quarantined after having an encounter with Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters, Ibadan.
The monarch who was detained alongside some of his security aides at the Iyaganku Police Station was confirmed positive to symptoms related to COVID-19 after leaving the detention by medical reports obtained from the Police Medical Clinic Eleyele, Ibadan.
Oginni, through a petition written by his counsel Oladipo Olasope SAN & Co, alleged the commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko and Iyagaku Area Commander, ACP Sunday Oke of taking side in a tenancy case between him and some aggrieved tenants after suspiciously taken bribe.
The monarch, in the petition written to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Police Complaints Commission and made available to newsmen, challenged what he described as high handiness of men Oyo State Police Command.
Oba Oginni alleged the leadership of Oyo State Police of taking side after receiving kickback from some dissidents who are fomenting troubles at one of his properties and arrested his security aides and detained them for nine days over a tenancy issue that was supposed to be civil.
“Police from Iyaganku Area command, under ACP Sunday Oke denied me a fair hearing after unlawfully arrested my aides who are watching over my property (HRH Olatunde Oginni retail market at Dugbe, Ibadan) and detained them for nine days at Iyaganku Police division, after collecting gratification.
Some hoodlums were protesting over tenancy issue and are threatening to destroy the edifice.
“I can boldly say that CP Onadeko is not competent to secure a volatile State, such as Oyo as is evident in many lapses on her path and security breaches we are experiencing here”, the monarch told newsmen.
He however pleaded with the Inspector General of Police to look into the case and ensure fair hearing and justice on behalf of his security aides that had suffered unjust hardship in the hands of the overzealous policemen.
However, the state’s PPRO, DSP Adewale Osifeso denied knowledge of the matter when our reporter called him on phone.
