Two secondary school students of Monatan High School, Ibadan, Oyo State, have been arrested by men of the state police command for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl. The incident happened over the weekend at an Moricas community in the Oluyole Local Government Area of the State.
Meanwhile, a police source who spoke to Punch newspaper about the incident, disclosed that the suspects were an SSS1 student, an SSS3 student, and another student (yet to be arrested), all between 17 and 18 years. According to the source, the suspects had heard about the rape incident involving the victim, an SSS1 student of the school and threatened to expose her unless she settled them financially. However, when she gave them the money, their demand changed.
The police said: “She actually gave them that money, but they later rejected it and insisted on having fun with her. She initially agreed but something else happened which caused commotion among them. A landlady who was not far from the scene raised the alarm which led to the arrest of the two suspects. The third suspect (boy) is now at large”.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso confirmed this report noting that efforts are ongoing to ensure the speedy apprehension of the third boy in order to determine or find out other hidden truths.
