The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed a viral video alleging a Boko Haram invasion along the Ibadan Expressway, labeling it as a recycled clip from 2022.
In a statement released Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, clarified that the video, which purportedly shows trucks loaded with motorcycles and weapons, is outdated and misleading.
“The command wishes to address the recent circulation of misleading information on social media. The video, allegedly depicting a Boko Haram attack, has been verified as a recycled clip from 2022,” Osifeso stated.
He emphasized that the resurfacing of the video, especially during heightened security efforts in the state, appears to be a deliberate attempt by malicious individuals to incite fear and unrest.
The police further pointed out that DSP Segun Adeyemo, the Divisional Crime Officer shown briefly in the clip, retired in August 2024, reinforcing the claim that the footage is outdated.
The command reassured residents that there is no current threat to the state’s safety and urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, and verify content before sharing it on social media.
Osifeso reiterated the commitment of the Oyo State Police to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across the state.
