The Union Baptist Church, Ekotedo, Ibadan, is set to celebrate its 80th anniversary in grand style, with a week-long line-up of events and the attendance of prominent dignitaries across Oyo State.
Among the high-profile guests expected at the celebration are Rt. Hon. The anniversary, themed “Union Baptist Church Celebrates 80 Years of God’s Goodness”, marks eight decades of spiritual growth, impactful community outreach, and unwavering commitment to the Christian gospel.
Founded in 1945, Union Baptist Church has remained a cornerstone of worship and service in Ibadan, offering spiritual guidance and practical support to generations of faithful under the leadership of Rev. Jonathan A. Babalola, Ph.D.
“This milestone is not just about looking back,” said Rev. Babalola. “It’s about giving thanks for God’s faithfulness, honouring those who came before us, and renewing our commitment to serve our community with love and hope.”
According to the Anniversary Planning Committee Chairman, Deacon T. O. P. Adewale, the celebration commenced with a special thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
The week-long activities continue with a visit to Children of Promise Orphanage Home in Bashorun, Ibadan on Tuesday, July 22. A revival service and prayers will be held on Wednesday, while Thursday will feature a free medical outreach to the community.
On Saturday, July 26, the church will launch a ₦100 million Appeal Fund for the development of Union Baptist College. The day will also include presentation of awards and an in memoriam service for late church members who made significant contributions to the church’s legacy.
The celebration will climax with the Grand Anniversary Thanksgiving on Sunday, July 27. The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Rev. Dr. Israel Adelani Akanji, will minister at the service.
“All members, past and present, as well as the general public, are warmly invited to join in this celebration,” Deacon Adewale said. “As we commemorate this historic moment, Union Baptist Church, Ekotedo remains steadfast in its mission to go and make disciples, share Christ’s love, serve with compassion, and build a legacy of faith for generations to come.”
