Dr. Olatundun Oyewumi, the Polytechnic Librarian for Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, has been appointed as the pioneer University Librarian for Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo.
The Rector of OYSCATECH, Prof. Akinola Akinlabi, the Management, Staff, and Students have expressed joy over the appointment of Dr. Oyewumi, whom they described as a “distinguished scholar and iconic woman.”
In a congratulatory message signed by the Registrar, Mr. R.F.A. Adeniji, the Rector, on behalf of the Governing Council Chairman, the entire Management, Staff, and Students, felicitated with Dr. Oyewumi. The Rector noted that she would be remembered for her positive contributions to the OYSCATECH Library and the educational advancement of the institution and its staff members.
The Rector expressed optimism that Dr. Oyewumi’s appointment will bring speedy development to the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education Library and the institution at large, considering her wealth of experience as a certified librarian and her years of practice at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
Prof. Akinlabi wished Dr. Oyewumi a fruitful and successful stay in office, praying that God will grant her more enablement and wisdom in the discharge of her responsibilities at the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo.
Until her appointment, Dr. Olatundun Oluwatoyin Oyewumi was the Polytechnic Librarian for OYSCATECH, Igboora. She is an Associate Professor of Library Science in the Department of Library and Information Science at LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Nigeria.
Dr. Oyewumi obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1988, and Master and PhD degrees in Library Studies from the University of Ibadan in 1997 and 2013, respectively. She is a chartered Librarian with the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria and has a Certificate in Electronic Data Processing from LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, obtained in 1994.
She began her career in Library Science at the Olusegun Oke Library, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, where she joined the University Library as a Librarian-in-Training, equivalent to a Graduate Assistant, in 1992, and rose through the ranks to become Deputy University Librarian in 2010.
Dr. Oyewumi has been involved in both independent and collaborative research within and outside the library, with colleagues, practicing and teaching librarians, and other researchers in her areas of interest. She has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers.
Dr. Oyewumi joined the services of OYSCATECH, Igboora, in December 2022, and her short stay has reportedly brought tremendous growth to the OYSCATECH Library and the Library and Information Department.
