In what appears to be a political masterstroke, the Peoples Democratic Party is seriously considering seeking support of the former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi ahead of presidential election in 2023.
Some leaders of the main opposition party, according to an insider, have set in a motion to lure Amaechi back to PDP and call off Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike’s bluff.
Already, while some of his loyalists have defected from APC due to the neglect of their principal, some did, giving an excuse of Muslim/Muslim ticket adopted by the party in nominating its vice presidential candidate.
Amaechi according to a report is not happy with the way and manners the APC especially the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu has sidelined him and his supporters in the scheme of things pertaining to the 2023 presidential campaign.
More worrisome is the meeting of the three governors of the APC with his arch rival, Wike in Port-harcourt, Rivers State capital, three weeks ago and lately the London meeting between Tinubu and Wike.
A source disclosed to WesternLifeNews that the PDP will soon surprise those who are “bragging” that they are in control of Rivers votes.
Ameachi and the incumbent governor are close ally until 2015 when the former defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Wike has been in the centre of crisis rocking the main opposition party since the PDP presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku chose Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate despite the preference of Wike by majority members of committee, set up to choose vice presidential candidate for the party’s standard bearer.
Atiku had since disclosed that he chose Okowa because he preferred someone he can work with ‘amicably’.
What is however seems vague is what becomes the APC candidates during the election especially those running for Senate and house of representatives on the platform of the party since both presidential and national assembly hold the same day.
It was gathered that since Atiku returned from United Kingdom where he met with the Rivers State governor and other three including Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Ugwuanyi (Abia), he had decided to keep Wike in suspense especially on the demands from Wike’s team, in order to get their support.
According to a Rivers State based journalist, Richard Ewele, “most of what we read in the newspaper or social media are different from the real things happening here.
“Most of you think everyone in Rivers State is align with Wike’s position but you will be surprised when election day comes.
“Instead of Wike to be planning strategy of how his governorship candidate, Siminilaye Fubara, presently wanted by Economic Financial and Crime Commission over an allegation of billions of money laundering, the governor is carrying himself about as a national kingmaker,” he added.
Meanwhile the recent defection of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau to the PDP seems to have add another electoral plus to the presidential bid of Atiku.
Until now, PDP as a party, since last year has became a non existent in Kano.
With the coming of the former governor into its fold, the party is gradually regaining it’s strength.
An ally of Atiku recently told Vanguard newspaper that the PDP should stop mourning over Wike as the Rivers State governor seems to have made up his mind on where he’s going but rather be consoled with the defection of Shekarau to the party.
He advised the party to focus on strengthening the party in preparation for the general elections in 2023.
