Following the lavish display of wealth during the burial of Inyom Ezinne Uche Iyiegbu, the mother of billionaire Obi Cubana in Oba, Anambra State in July, many people are now trooping into their homes and places of businesses in search for help, his wife, Barr Ebele Iyiegbu revealed.
Obi Cubana’s wife, Barr Ebele Iyiegbu who is the founder of the KIEK Foundation FCT, Abuja and Vice Chairman, Cubana Group told LEADERSHIP that even though they had always helped people, the burial of her mother-in-law has brought further attention to the family with many Nigerians now trooping for help.
She said even though her foundation has been helping the less privileged children by giving them basic education and basic life necessities they require to thrive in the society, the demand for help from some privileged Nigerians is now unprecedented following the burial that took place in July.
“Obviously, this is what we are going through right now. There have been high demands for help and all of that but we can only do what we can afford at right now. We can’t help the whole world but what can we do?” asked Ebere.
“For me, my own assignment is for the less privileged, those indigent ones, the ones that you know that without anybody supporting them they cannot live a good life.”
“If you have basic food and house and all of that and you want my help, once in a while, yes, but my target are the rural, poor children and their families,” added Ebere.
On how she copes with marriage to an influential man, Ebere said she saw it as a normal way of life. “I don’t know, I don’t see it as anything (laughs) it’s my normal life. We’ve always been there but I guess the burial brought us out more, so it is still the same for me. Nothing has changed.
Commending Tarian Pad Foundation for its recognition of her services to the poor, she said, “I appreciate it and after the conversation with the CEO and Founder, Queen Aina, I told her I will support the distribution of the 10 million sanitary pads to rural women and girls.”
