•Witches and wizards in Nigeria held their conference at the University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, Enugu state
•The conference commenced despite opposition by the Christians in the country
•The opening hymn of the conference was rendered by the university’s Christ Church choir
The controversial witchcraft conference billed for the University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, Enugu commenced on Tuesday, not minding the protests by Christians and their groups.
Premium Times quotes a journalist, Patrick Egwu, currently attending the conference as saying the venue was moved from its initial place to a bigger hall.
This is because more people are said to be attending the event as Ewgu puts the figure of participants at about 500.
According to the report, the conference is now holding at the Princess Alexandra auditorium with those in attendance saying: “Amen” to an opening prayer.
It was learnt that the opening hymn of the conference was song by the university’s Christ Church choir.
Egwu, the journalist, was quoted as saying: “It was more like a normal church event, people calling Jesus and praying that the aim of the event should be achieved.”
According to him, the event banner no longer bears the word ‘witchcraft’ so as to reduce the opposition to the conference.
Egwu, however, noted that all the discussions at the conference had to do with witchcraft with nobody showing any objection as was earlier anticipated.
“One of the keynote speakers just finished presenting his lecture and (he) received a standing ovation. It was really interesting, people were clapping hands and enjoying the presentation,” he disclosed adding that he was attending to know more about witchcraft.
Legit.ng earlier reported that a Nigerian cleric identified as Bishop Zam Zuga recently reacted to the news of the witchcraft conference.
