Oyo State police command on Monday uncovered a torture centre in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

According to reports, no fewer that 259 victims was rescued on Monday in Ojoo area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in an illegal correctional center owned by one suspected Alfa Ismail Olore.
The Oyo State police Commissioner, Shina Olukolu, who led his men to the scene of the incident, freed 34 females, 191 males, 11 children, and 23 sicked ones who were detained and chained for the past 2 to 10 years ago.
Olukolu while speaking with journalists at the scene of the incident, said that 4 suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal correctional centre.
The one storey building where almost 300 inmates were chained and maltreated is located at the back of Olore Mosque, Ojoo, Ibadan.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in Oyo State, Alhaja Fusat Ajoke Sanni, noted that the situation was very pathetic, but the state government is currently on top of the situation.
“We got a distress call in our office this afternoon, and we came immediately to the scene of the incident, we have make arrangements to evacuate some of them to the hospital, as well as our correctional homes.
A source, who confide in us said that the suspect had been arrested for the same crime sometime ago around 2007 but was later released by the power that be.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi said that the victims will be taking to the reformation centers in order to give the urgent medical attention, so as to be able to take a good care of them.
“Oyo State government is involved in the evacuation process, and the police are currently investigating is ongoing to unraveled the incident.
