Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde on Wednesday disclosed plans to establish a more effective emergency communication centre for distress calls on security and other issues of urgent concerns in the state.
According to InsideOyo.com, the govenor said though an emergency call centre is located at Monatan area of Ibadan, but his administration would harness full potentials of the centre for the benefit of the people and the government of Oyo state.
Governor Makinde stated this when he hosted the management team of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) on a courtesy visit to his office.
While noting that the state government would set up a team to work with the NCC on ICT and telecommunication, Governor Makinde called for assistance from the commission to get data on Mast installations around the state and how government could get its entitlement from telecom companies in terms of taxes.
Earlier, Head of emergency communication centre of the NCC, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim said an emergency call centre has become necessary in this era of security challenges and expressed willingness to partner the state government in telecom related issues.
