In a bid to raise awareness and save lives through early detection, the Access to Basic Medical Care (ABC) Foundation has announced a free breast cancer screening initiative for 1,000 women in Oyo State.
The initiative, which forms part of activities to commemorate Pink Month—globally recognized every October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month—was unveiled by the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, former First Lady of Oyo State.
In a video message uploaded to her Facebook page on Wednesday, Ajimobi emphasized the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer.
“I am Dr. Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, Founder and CEO of Access to Basic Medical Care Foundation. ABC Foundation is joining millions around the world in observing the Pink Month, which we all know is in October. This year, we’re bringing a life-saving intervention to the women of Oyo State. Free breast screening, including clinical breast examination, ultrasounds, and mammograms for a thousand women,” she stated.
She urged women across the state to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing that early detection increases survival rates.
“Don’t miss this great opportunity. Early detection saves lives. Together, we can fight and beat breast cancer. Let’s join hands together to do this. God bless you all,” she added.
The foundation noted that the screenings will include clinical breast examinations, ultrasound scans, and mammography, all offered free of charge, in order to reduce the burden of cancer among women in Oyo State.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women globally and in Nigeria. Experts continue to emphasize that awareness, regular self-examinations, and professional screenings are crucial in reducing fatalities.
The ABC Foundation has, over the years, initiated several medical outreaches in Oyo State, with the latest program seen as a significant step in advancing women’s health.
