Police Arrest Driver With Firearms, Recover Human Flesh in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a commercial driver with firearms and recovered human flesh in separate stop-and-search operations carried out this week across the state.

A statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Osifeso Adewale, said the arrests were part of the police’s renewed intelligence-led operations aimed at tackling crime on highways and major roads.

According to the statement, operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol on Thursday, September 18, stopped a Toyota bus with registration number AFZ 933 XA around 9:11 p.m. at the Toll Gate along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two locally-made single-barrel firearms, two new stainless steel machetes, and 20 live cartridges.

The driver of the bus, who could not produce a valid driver’s licence or vehicle documents, was immediately arrested and taken into custody.

In a related operation on Wednesday, September 17, officers on duty at Ogbomoso–Iseyin Road recovered a white Toyota Camry (registration number LSD 957 JX) believed to have been stolen. During the same operation, police also made a chilling discovery when human flesh was found concealed inside a passenger’s hand luggage in a white commercial bus (registration number XA 551 IRG).

Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, described the operations as a clear demonstration of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities.

The police further assured that investigations into the incidents were ongoing, and the suspects in custody would face prosecution once inquiries were concluded.
