Confusion in Akwa Ibom State as Masquerade, “Ekpo” festival turn violence where police, cultist, masquerade exchange bullet.
The incident happened in Ifa Atai community in Uyo, local Government Area, of the state, on Saturday, September 28.
It was gathered that, when the festival was ongoing, the police arrive the venue and started shooting at the masquerade/masqueraders.
But the bullet did not penetrate anybody or the masquerade, the angry youths who believed to be cultist exchange gun shoot at the police.
It gathered that, when the governor of the state, Udom Emmanuel, pass along the road to the airport, he try to intervene the situation. Immediately the governor left, the gun battle started again.
When our Reporters visited the town in the evening, our Reporter observed that, numbers of cars, House were damage.
It also observed that, Shops, Market closed as early as 5:30pm.
It was not clear whether the life was lost.
