The widow of MKO Abiola, Prof Zainab Duke-Abiola has been arrested for allegedly assaulting her police orderly, Inspector Teju Moses, because she refused to do house chores for her.
The report says that the police also arrested her domestic staff, Rebecca Enechido, who was an accomplice in the crime.
A male domestic staff, who was also involved in the assault, is said to be on the run.
A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi on Thursday disclosed that the Abuja-based lawyer and human rights activists assaulted the policewoman on Tuesday, September 20, at her residence in Garki, Abuja.
The statement also said that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has ordered the speedy prosecution of the arrested suspects, adding that the preliminary investigation shows that the Professor and her domestic staff were culpable in the crime.
The police spokesman’s statement also debunked speculations making the rounds on social media that the prime suspect has connections to the top hierarchy of the Nigerian Police.
He pointed out that even though the Professor has been dropping the names of the IGP and his family members as well as names of officers in the top echelon of the force, she has no acquaintance with the Police in any form.
Meanwhile, the IGP is said to have directed that all police personnel attached to the lawyer be withdrawn.
