A somber mood engulfed the Egbeda area of Lagos on Saturday, April 19, 2025, as a well-known hotelier, Mr. A.O. Akinyele, tragically passed away during his wife’s 60th birthday celebration.
The incident occurred at a bustling event centre where family and friends had gathered to celebrate Mrs. Catherine Akinyele’s milestone. According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Akinyele was addressing the audience on stage when he suddenly slumped.
Efforts to revive him at the scene proved unsuccessful. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Sources at the event revealed that Mr. Akinyele had just called his wife aside to whisper something to her moments before collapsing. “She had just stepped away when he slumped,” one report noted.
Earlier in the celebration, Mr. Akinyele had surprised his wife with the unveiling of a brand-new Toyota Highlander, a gift in honor of her birthday.
His unexpected death has left the family and community in deep mourning. Guests described him as a warm and kind-hearted individual whose sudden passing has shocked many.
