The leadership and entire members of the Strategic Prayer Group (SPG), have sympathised with the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, the government and people of Oyo State and most especially the residents of Bodija Estate Ibadan on the unfortunate explosion that occured on Tuesday night in the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the SPG coordinator, Dr. Olatunde Oladoyinbo and made available to newsmen on Friday.
According to the group, the incident which claimed lives and destroyed a lot of houses was very unfortunate and avoidable should the people and all charged with regulation and enforcement have done their duties diligently.
The group condemned in very strong terms a situation where people keep explosive and other harmful and prohibited items in residential areas without those in authority knowing, till it now caused this colossal damage to lives and property.
SPG called all and sundry to always take personal responsibility of their wellbeing and security at all times, noting that no matter what the government does or didn’t do, the responsibility is still very important as the masses are always at the receiving end of the outcome of not doing so.
The leadership of Residents’ Associations in various communities and neighborhood were also charge to always do their due diligence in ensuring they properly profile and have good updated information about their neighbours and their activities on a constant, consistent basis.
While commending the steps already taken by the state government to pay the hotel and hospital bills of victims and help those whose houses were affected, SPG called on Governor Seyi Makinde to pls ensure investigation on the matter is thoroughly done and ensure that the culprits are brought to book irrespective of their social or political statues.
The group also commended the security operatives, medical practitioners, volunteers and all those involved in rescue operation when the incident happened till date, for their prompt response and absolute professionalism.
While praying to God to put an end to such calamity in Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole, SPG which is a special group of professionals across various fields of human endeavours, raised by God to specifically pray and strategize for the well being, good governance and peace of the state, urged all to be fervent and unrelenting in their prayers for Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State, Nigeria and her leadership generally.
He concluded by calling on corporate bodies, philanthropists and the Federal Government to come to the aid of the state government in resettling those affected by the blast as the cost of doing so solely by the state can be enormous with the present financial condition of the state
