In what appeared to be a reprisal attack following the visit of Yoruba right activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to Ogun community, suspected herdsmen on Thursday, stormed Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, hacking two people to death.
Daily Independent gathered that the herdsmen has laid ambush on the community in the early hours of the day and attacked passersby around 5am in the Morning.
The duo of Isiaka Apesin and Oguntosin Adebayo were murdered in cold blood in the process at the Owode Ketu – Ijoun – Tata road.
About four people, as at the time of filling this report, have been declared missing as there whereabouts could not be located.
Yewa in Ogun West Senatorial District of Ogun state has been under attacks by killer-herdsmen who have been laying siege on the communities in the District.
A farmer, identified as Dele Olowoniyi was four days ago butchered to death by suspected Fulani herdsmen while asleep in his farm settlement at Oha village, imeko, in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun state.
Confirming the incident, a resident of the village, who simply identified himself as Gbenga told Journalists that two villagers were killed in the ambush by the herdsmen.
“Herders went to lay an ambush for people in my village, Owode-Ketu around 5am this morning.
“Two corpses of locals have been found. Herders laid an ambush for locals on Owode Ketu – Ijoun – Tata Road around 5am today and killed two.
“Police from Eggua have evacuated the corpses.”
The lawmaker representing the constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Haruna Egungbohun, while speaking with out Correspondent revealed that the killing was not unconnected with the visit of Sunday Igboho to the community last week.
He however demanded the arrest of the Chairman of Miyetti Allah in the community, adding that such will help the police in identifying the criminals herders within the community.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the killing of the two person.
He however added that all the DPOs in the Area including the Area Commander have been mobilised to comb the bush for the arrest of the suspected killers.
“I can confirm two people were killed, the Area Commander and the DPOs in the area have been mobilised to work with the youths and vigilance group coming the bush for the killers,” he said.
