Funke Akindele, deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, says education will be free and compulsory in the state if the party is elected in the 2023 elections.
Akindele said in addition to free education, the PDP administration will provide free uniforms for children in the state.
According to NAN, the PDP deputy governorship candidate spoke on Thursday at the party’s campaign rally in Alimosho area of the state.
“We shall make education free and compulsory for all children and provide free school uniforms. I, Funke Akindele, and all PDP candidates will not disappoint you,” she said.
Akindele, who also spoke to traders in the area, said markets won’t be closed over infractions.
“Only Jandor (Olajide Adediran, PDP governorship candidate in Lagos) can do it and give you the kind of state you desire. We shall not disappoint you. We need your support. Please, vote Jandor and PDP,” she said.
“We will not close down markets because we know this is where you feed your children and family from. Instead, we shall punish whoever contravenes the law.
“We have a lot in store for the women and other people in Alimosho generally. We have seen decay in infrastructure. Women have to be empowered, and we will encourage them by all means.
“Policies that affect residents will be amended. We will not take your means of livelihood because we don’t want your children to become criminals.”
Meanwhile, the state already offers free education, as the Lagos Compulsory Free Universal Basic Education Law, 2005 “sets out a policy to provide free, compulsory, universal basic education for every child of primary and secondary school age”.
