The last is yet to be heard on the Southwest Zonal Congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), scheduled for Osogbo, Osun State on Monday, as the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is said to be seeking help from the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus over membership of the congress committee.
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had on Thursday, moved the congress from Ibadan, Oyo State to Osogbo and postponed it from Saturday, April 10, 2021 to Monday, April 12, 2021.
The NWC also decided that to ensure fairness, the group led by former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and that of Governor Makinde should have equal membership in the congress committee.
However, sources confided in our reporter that yesterday, Governor Makinde approached a certain Pastor, who is from the Eastern part of the country, to reach out to the PDP National Chairman.
The source disclosed that Governor Makinde and the said Pastor (names withheld) met with Secondus in his Abuja residence last night.
“He (Makinde) came with the Pastor to beg the chairman last night that he (Secondus) should honour him with the list of the Congress Committee members.
“He went on to plead that the National Chairman should forgive him if he had done anything wrong and that he does not have anything against the chairman.
“The governor pleaded that he should be honoured by being allowed to nominate members of the congress committee and that he wants the chairman to see the possibility of returning the congress to Ibadan, Oyo State, arguing that Ibadan is the headquarters of PDP in the South-West.
“However, Secondus was said to have responded by saying that he lacked such powers and that decision of the NWC was that the two groups should supply memberships of the congress committee.
“The chairman, who was also said to have assured the governor that he had no ill-feelings against him, added that PDP has gone beyond giving advantage to some people over and above others. He explained that the new thinking is transparency and fairness so that whoever loses in the party primary or congress will be convinced the he or she lost fairly,” the source said.
Disclosing further, another source said the chairman also advised Governor Makinde to stop wasting his money, noting that it appeared that some people have been obtaining him, promising help that is beyond them.
