…being blind is my destiny – Esther
Disability is considered by most people as the inability to fully utilize one’s potentials as human beings. The story of Esther Oluwalolese is an inspiring one.
Esther Oluwalolese hails from Ile-Ife, Osun state. Her birth was considered a sad one for the family when it was discovered that she was born blind. Unlike some disabled people who still went through school, Esther couldn’t even finish her primary school education as she couldn’t cope with learning alongside other able-bodied children.
At age 6, Esther’s case became worse as several efforts were made to fix her sight. One of her eyes was injected with some medicine and soon enough, her eyeball came out its socket.
“It was the biggest nightmare for me. The eyes became smelly and no one could withstand the stench”, Esther said.
According to her, she was rejected by everyone and only her maternal grandmother, Mrs Arike Aderibigbe who took her care of her irrespective of the uncomfortable situation.
Just like some talented disabled people who did not allow their disability rid them of their talents and what they can achieve through it, Esther found her talent in the world of music.
Speaking on how she discovered she’s destined to use her voice to bless the wotld, Esther narrated that age 7, she went into a spiritual trance and she got to know that being blind was her destiny and her voice is all she got to change lives.
“I can say being blind is my destiny. I mean, a lot of things were done to fix my eyesight but it went from being bad to worse. But one thing I know I became better at was singing”.
“You must discover the talent God deposits in you and use that to make a living instead of being a beggar. There are quite a number of celebrities who have looked beyond their disabilities and have being an inspiration to millions. I want to do same.” She explained.
Esther was backed up by a non-governmental organization, Nicky’s Mission Foundation to release her debut album, ‘Mo ri anu gba’ where she tells the story of her life.
She is a mother of a pretty 7-year old girl.
