The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka including other top management team of the institution escaped plane crash on Sunday.
Although details of the incident is yet to be ascertained as at press time, it was gathered that the UI management and others were returning from Sokoto to Abuja where they had gone to witness the wedding ceremony of the institution’s chancellor, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar’s daughter, Fatima, who got married to Mahmoud Yuguda from Bauchi State.
The UI team included Nde Waklek Joshua Mutka, UI Council Chairman; Prof. Ademola Aremu, Council member; Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, UI VC. Others from UI are Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Administration), Prof. Adebola Ekanola, (DVC, Academic), the Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi.
They also included the University’s Bursar, Dr. Michael Alatise, Prof. Kuta Yahaya, Deputy Registrar (Council), Mr. David O. Oyejide, Director, Public Communication, Olatunji Oladejo, Media Assistant to Vice Chancellor, Sunday Saanu and Protocol Officer, Samuel Badejo
The bride-groom and some of his family members were also in the ill-fated flight.
The media assistant to the VC, Mr. Sunday Saanu, who broke the news on his Facebook, later explained that after the incident, “From Sokoto to Abuja, we connected another flight from Abuja to Lagos. From Lagos, we took Overland Aircraft in order to catch up with some important meetings and appointments in UI.”
