Dr Bisi Olawuyi, lecturer from Faculty of Art, University of Ibadan has tasked media aides on professionalism and capacity building in order to succeed in projecting their principal.
Olawuyi gave the advice during a media retreat organised by Bayo Adelabu Media Group with the theme:Managing Public Relations and Activities of Political Appointees-Role of Media Aides” on Sunday in Ibadan.
The lecturer said that media aides must be well inform, know the ridument of journalism profession for him or her to be able to fulfil the task of projecting his or her boss to the admiration of the public.
He said that a media aide must build his or her capacity and have good working relationship with the media for him to be able to deliver and perform his function effectively.
“The success of a political appointee depend on how well his media aides are able to handle information and project him or her to the public.
“A media aide must be so influence, have good relationship with media, abreast of information, counsel his boss professionally and be truthful,” Olawuyi said.
Earlier, the Convener of the retreat, Mr Femi Awogboro, said the retreat provided a platform for exchange of ideas and sharing of knowledge in media development.
Awogboro said the aim of the retreat was to foster collaboration towards understanding the ever-evolving role of media in good governance and public representations of people in power and politics.
“In an era defined by rapid information flow, the role of media in shaping public perception is more critical than ever.
“Our focus on managing public relations and political activities through the lens of media aides speaks directly to the heart of our societal responsibilities,” he said. (NAN)
