The iconic De Castle Inn, a popular hotel located along Queen Elizabeth II Road, Total Garden-Gate axis of Ibadan, has finally been pulled down.
Demolition work commenced earlier today, with heavy machinery seen bringing down the structure which had once served as a bustling hospitality hub in the heart of the Oyo State capital.
As at the time of filing this report, the exact reason behind the demolition remains unclear. However, Naija Metro News reports that the state government may be acting in line with earlier warnings issued regarding abandoned and underutilized buildings across the state.

In a report published by Oyo Insight on February 7, 2024, the Oyo State Government had declared its intention to reclaim or demolish abandoned properties considered to be security risks or hideouts for criminals.
The Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development, Mr. William Akin-Funmilayo, had at the time visited De Castle Inn and issued a stern warning to property owners across the state. He emphasized that structures left idle or in a state of neglect could be seized or demolished if found to be contributing to insecurity in the area.

De Castle Inn, once a well-known spot for visitors and residents alike, had long appeared to be out of operation, with parts of the building showing signs of deterioration before the demolition began.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the fate of the land or whether new developments are planned for the site.
