The 1st Eneka vigilante group in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has rescued two children from the hands of unknown gunmen who launched a violent attack over suspected land documents.
Leader of the vigilante team, Mr. Ken Dede, disclosed to the Rivers State Police Command that the incident occurred on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the residence of the late Mr. Obuh in Eneka.
“In the early hours of that morning, my team received a distress call about an attack at the home of late Mr. Obuh. On arrival, we engaged the armed men in a shootout. Shortly after, police operatives joined us, but the gunmen managed to escape,” Dede recounted.
He revealed that the vigilante team successfully rescued the disabled children of the late Mr. Obuh — Augustine and Victoria — who had already been assaulted before their arrival. Tragically, the family’s security guard was shot dead during the attack.
“A woman and her 14-year-old child were also caught in the crossfire and sustained injuries, though thankfully not severe,” Dede added.
During questioning, Victoria revealed that the assailants repeatedly demanded the whereabouts of one Chukwuemeka and certain land documents allegedly linked to her late father.
Dede further disclosed that three years earlier, his team had intervened in an attempted attack on Chukwuemeka at a nearby building project site.
Police authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident, with suspicions that the violence may be tied to a protracted land dispute.
