We’re Repositioning Oyo Water Corporation, Improving Water Supply to Residents – Adeojo

Chairman of the Water Corporation of Oyo State, Hon. Elias Adeojo, has outlined ongoing efforts to boost water supply to homes and industries across Ibadan and other parts of the state, declaring that the reforms are beginning to yield results.

Adeojo, who credited Governor Seyi Makinde for providing funds to acquire vital equipment and materials, said the corporation is now better positioned to tackle long-standing challenges in the state’s water distribution system.

He explained that while water supply issues remain, significant progress has been made in getting clean water to many parts of Ibadan as well as other urban centres including Eruwa, Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Saki.

“Since my appointment two years ago, we have worked to reconnect electricity to critical facilities like the Asejire Waterworks, which has restored water to parts of Ibadan. The Eleyele and Erelu Waterworks are functional, while Eruwa and Ogbomoso now have active water supply,” he said.

Adeojo, however, identified erratic electricity supply, vandalism, damage to pipes from road construction, and ageing infrastructure as major obstacles. He disclosed that the corporation would soon begin a state-wide exercise to repair damaged pipes and extend water access to more residents.

According to him, Governor Makinde recently approved the procurement of pipes, fittings, and other materials, with suppliers close to completing deliveries. “Very soon we will go from area to area fixing the problems so that more communities can have water,” he stated.

He urged residents to report pipe vandalism, leakages, and other incidents to the corporation via 08155326750 or 08077033774, warning that water wastage drives up operational costs.

Adeojo revealed that areas with consistent electricity, such as Alakia, Olode, and Ogungbade, enjoy uninterrupted water supply from Asejire. Plans are underway to push supply to new locations including Oketunu, Beere, and parts of Egbeda and Ona Ara, supported by booster stations.

He also disclosed that the Eleyele scheme, with its 40-million-litre capacity reservoir, is being optimised to serve Oke-Bola, Jericho, Mile 110, Ologuneru, and Ido. Beyond water supply, the corporation is exploring revenue generation through leasing unused land and ensuring residents pay for water services.

“Our ultimate goal is to fix the challenges, ensure continuity, and become the top internally generated revenue contributor for the state,” Adeojo said, adding that plans are in place to protect equipment and pipelines with marker posts.

The chairman was accompanied at the briefing by the Coordinating Director of the Corporation, Mrs. Roaques Sotunwa, and the Director of Commercial Services, Mrs. Mabel Adegbenro.
