Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin, gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says he received invite to the peace accord for the 2023 elections, barely one hour before the event.
The peace accord meeting was held at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Friday for all governorship candidates in Oyo State.
The State Peace Committee, which organised the event, had said invitation was sent to all guber candidates contesting the 2023 elections.
In a swift reaction, Senator Teslim Folarin said though he was represented by his runningmate, Dr. Okunlola David, his absence was not deliberate.
While he pledged his support for peace in the coming elections, Folarin also indicated his commitment to the peace accord, headed by former Governor, Rashidi Ladoja.
“As a peace-loving citizen and strong advocate of issue-based campaigns and violence-free elections, I am wholeheartedly in line with the peace accord”, he said.
“My absence at today’s Peace Accord Meeting chaired by His Excellency Rashidi Ladoja at Oyo State Police Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan was not deliberate”.
“I left Ibadan for Abuja in the early hours of today without any knowledge of the very important meeting”.
“The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Williams called to invite me barely 1hr to the scheduled meeting. However, I was ably represented by my runningmate, Dr. Okunlola David, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli (2023 Oyo APC Senatorial Candidate for Oyo South) and APC Oyo South Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya”.
